HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Another great day.
Breakfast, laundry and light cleaning.
Then off to the Redwoods
Oh, wait first our campsite
We got the quiet place, right next to the owners.

Now off to the Redwoods

Millie showing off a Redwood Burl
The Burl

Trying to give you and idea of the size.

These things really are amazing
and big.

Found this one with a hollow center
and it is still alive and healthy
Yes that is Millie inside the tree,

Millie had to show off how big this downed tree is.
It fell across the road
Why it is cut.
We came across one downed by the recent storm
that crushed the road and after the tree was removed from the road
they had to patch the road.

This is the root end of the tree
Millie is showing off above.
The guy on top is at least 6' tall.

Picture in the woods, no it is not edible.

The log in front of Millie
is the log the felled tree grew over
and used for food to start growing.
Mother Nature wastes nothing.

Along the Eel River on the Avenue of the Giants.
And finally the Black Sand Beach at Shelter Cove

Shelter Cove is a small upscale community on the coast.
The road back to it is 20+ miles and there is not a straight section of road on it.
13 switchback curves, 5 narrow bridges, one with a stop sign at each end
and an hour later we made it to Shelter Cove.

Beautiful coast line and beach.

And the light house from Cape Mendocino
It was moved to this location at Shelter Cove
To preserve the top after it fell into disrepair.

A fun and tiring day.
Climbing down to the beach

and climbing around on the rocks

watching the waves, Pelicans and Sea Lions.

Made it home by dark
had supper and I worked on Blog
Millie worked on quilting projects.

Just another great day on the California coast
Good night and have wonderful dreams
Hugs
Tom and Millie
