Page, AZ

Hi all
We left Cortez, CO and after many harrowing experiences
Hours and hours of travel
across the wide open Southwest,
made the journey to
Page, AZ and Lake Powell

The last couple of days has
been wonderful.
A little more time at and
closing down the Park at Mesa Verde.
We then moved to Arriola, AZ
Spent Thursday night in
Back Country Solar's parking lot.
Joe did a minor install of a port
to plug in the portable solar panel set we purchased.
He also checked out our batteries and
determined they were still adequate.
He did suggest we plan to replace in the
near future.
I was so happy he was not a "salesman"
although he did a great job informing us
about his product, listening to what
our needs were and helping us, almost painlessly,
part with some of our money.
Was a wonderful experience and
the system does a great job.
I highly recommend, either purchasing online
or making the trip for complete installation.
Thanks Joe!

Most of our trip yesterday
was across Navajo Nation land.

Stark and surprisingly beautiful.

Rock formations varied so much over the 200+ miles.

Weather was perfect for traveling

and the few people we did interact with
were so pleasant.
Stopped and stood in 4 states at once,

Four Corners.

A bit later
Gas and MickyD's then back on the road.
Made Page and our campground
around 3 PM set up and relaxed.
Showered and laundry rounded out our evening.
Slept great and looking forward
to exploring around Page and Lake Powell today.
Will let you know, tomorrow, what we do find.
Taking some time to do financial stuff
and trip planning.

Make your day great

MVNP day 2

Hi all from Meas Verde National Park
Yesterday was busy and we were exhausted by the end.
Started out driving the park drive after a stop at the campground store.
This gave me an idea what was to come.

Lots of great scenery.
And we went to the 8572 point

I did well although slow.
Lots of driving in this park, just not as much as Yellowstone.
Lots of curvy roads and places to stop and see the Cliff Dwellings.

Stopped at the Museum and found it very interesting.
Talked with a Ranger and decided climbing down the trails
to the ruins was not a good idea for me, breathing, and Millie, heights.
But the view are spectacular and with binoculars even better.

Decided to go to town, Cortez, CO
Little bit of a drive, but we needed a few things
and did not want to stop with the BWB on our way out.

Decided to add Solar, instead of always using the generator
to keep batteries charged when "dry" camping.
Will have to stop by that place on our way out
to get the RV wired correctly.
Can't believe how these things are put together.
Will be nice to listen to the sound of silent power.
I will report on how well it works.

Off to new adventures,
more likely relaxed adventures
as we are planning to take it easy today.

Make your day great

Mesa Verde NP

Hi all
Got moved and all set up for a few days.
Wind was not a problem for our travels,
even got one more arch.

We are likely only going to have spotty, if any connectivity while here.
So there may be a few "dark" days.
If no luck, should be back Thursday.

Make your week great

Monday, Monday!

Hi all
Another warm, dry and windy morning.

The wind is getting a bit old and with planning travel today
well, just have to be careful.

Got Rob and Chris on their way home
and back to real life!

Yesterday Millie and the fur kids (me too)
drove out to Potash.
This was just what was at the end of the paved road.
This was the enticing good part.
We did not go far.

Scenery out and back was fantastic

got close up with some of the petroglyphs along the road.

Watched rock climbers, not for me.

Picked up a few supplies for the next week
fueled up the truck and did some shopping.
Then started getting the BWB ready for travel.

Have to make the decision if we are going to travel today
or wait for the wind to die down.
Checking closely with Weather Service
I have a limit I will accept for crosswind
we are also only planning on 150 miles
so would be a short day and could drive slower.
Will see as the morning progresses.

Make your day great
and see you tomorrow from somewhere!

Park after Park after Park

Hi all
Another great day with great people.
Lots of pretty red rocks and miles of conversation in the truck.
So great to get together with Rob and Chris.

Started the day with a hearty breakfast
at the Moab Grill.
Then off to Dead Horse Point State Park

And along the way we found beautiful scenery.

Some days it is hard to look anywhere and not find a view.

Hard to believe, Millie got that close to a 500' drop.

From DHPSP we moved down the road to
Canyonlands NP.

More red rocks and scenic beauty.
I find this scenery, even though it is very similar to Grand Canyon,

just seems more intimate and easily accessible.
Well, Dead Horse Point State Park, not the National Park.
It may take a high clearance 4X4 and some prep
but you can go in among the carvings of Ma Nature.

Pretty spectacular.
Made it back to Moab, dropped the Fur kids off at the trailer
and went to the Moab Brewer for supper.
Excellent food and tasted a few beers (samples)
all were good and ate too much.
Then back to the BWB patio for moon rise.
All in all a great day.

Thanks again to Rob and Chris
wonderful friends even though relatives!

We convinced Rob
NOT to throw her
over the edge.

Maybe today I will get a good
photo of you both,

We need to ether meet more places or travel  some together.
Love you both.

Hey, make your day great!

Busy Day

Good morning all!
Work, work, work.
That's how the day started.
Clean the BWB
Laundry
Put things away
and get ready for company!

So once we got ready
we took off for a short hike.
About 5 miles south of Moab
just outside of Spanish Valley,
is a place called Faux Falls.
Sounded interesting and on Google Maps
looked like there would be a water fall there.
Enjoyed our nice short drive and came to Ken's Lake
A recreation area and campground built around a reservoir.
From the trail head we could see the falls.
Real pretty on the red rocks.
Temps were warm and being BLM land we could
take our fur kids with us on the hike.
Grabbed the cameras and water and headed out.
A bit up hill but not a long hike.
Got to the base of the falls and it was cool with the bit of wind we had.
The falls is actually man made.
Looks like someone diverted water from a creek on the other side of the ridge.
The water comes out of a large culvert and creates the falls, then flows down
to Ken's Lake reservoir.
Don't know if it is a water source for Moab or a source for irrigation.
What ever, it make a very pretty, cool place in the desert.

Enjoyed poking around there for an hour or so

then got the text from Rob and Chris that they had arrived.

Back down the hill and home to our BWB.
A few adult beverages
great conversation
Good chili with banana bread for dessert.
Wonderful evening with Rob and Chris.
Great moonrise from our conversation pit.

Today, road trip!
Will show you tomorrow, assuming I get a few good photos.

Make today a great day and be happy!

Wine Tour

Good morning all
Yesterday we started out by being lazy.
Slow start as the blog took a couple of hours for processing.
Nearly 11 by the time we got going.
Drove up the Colorado River and enjoyed the solitude.

The Castle Creek Winery was out destination.
Tasted the wine and of course bought a few.

Then went to the associated resort looking for lunch.
Did not find an open restaurant
although we did find the Motion Picture Museum.
It was all about the movies filmed in the Moab area.
Pretty interesting and you can guess the majority
were Westerns, my favorite!
Gave up about 2 PM and went back to our BWB.
Made lunch and relaxed a little.
Decided to go back into Arches NP

to hike and enjoy the Windows area for sunset.
Stopped at the "Rock" shop on the way
didn't buy any as there are so many available outside the parks.
The drive into the park at 5 PM is so much nicer.
Most of the traffic is leaving!

At Windows we were greeted by overcast skies
but decided to enjoy the perfect weather and hike anyway.

The arches in that area are spectacular.
And I think the overcast kept some of the crowds away.
The views with the overcast were far better than I expected.

The moon even got into the act.

And as the sun went down some of the clouds "broke up"
to make a stunning end of the lighted day.

After the quick drive back out of the park
in the dark,
we went grocery shopping to fill in our depleting supplies
and find something for supper that was better for us than MickieD's.
Back to our BWB and photo processing.
Bed late, but slept oh so good.
Up to the sunrise and here I am.

Off again on new adventures
OK, laundry, shower and camper duties.
Got to spruce up as Rob and Chris arrive this afternoon for the weekend!

Make your day great and keep 'em guessing.
Tom and Millie

PS.
Not sure how this one occurred, but I liked the effect the camera did on it's own.

September 24 Hello all you followers, I hope your are OK patiently waiting for each installment. With the Holidays it seems to be hard to...
