More in Montrose

Hi all
Today we are moving to Mesa Verde.
4-6 days dry camp and maybe no cell service.
That so often goes along with great places to visit
and getting away from the crowds.
We have everything we need in our LSF
and with good sunshine can watch TV (if reception) or just watch a DVD.
Oh yeah, with good sunshine Millie can break out the sewing machine.
We do plan to visit the Cliff Dwellings and do the park things, too.

Yesterday we visited the Ute Indian Museum.
Very good displays and explanations.
Most of it was depicting the time Europeans arrived.
So much of the time before the arrival of Europeans they kept their history as stories.
Regardless of which race or ethnic group, it is sad to see what Man can do to his fellow Man.
Hopefully we remember what was done and
learn to stop repeating it or finding new ways to hurt each other.

Got some shopping and resupplying done and a nap!
Then after the museum we went to a local Brewery/Eatery.

Great beer and very good food.
Excellent service, too.

Home and Millie got sewing done and fought a while with her machine.
Hope it gets well and works as well as before.
I stopped in at a neighboring RV'r from New York, Long Island no less.
Visited for a good hour and had a great time sharing stories and campsites.

So time to get packed up and move on to new adventures.

Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park

Hi all

Yesterday morning I got to have a conversation with our neighbor.
They had a year newer Arctic Fox model same as ours.
Unfortunately they were here to their dealer for warranty work.
A few issues sounded similar to ours, which so far have all been corrected by our dealer.
Hope their issues are all corrected now and they can enjoy their new unit.

Since it was a near perfect weather day.
Sunny, light breeze, sweatshirt temps.
We took the day and headed to the National Park.
WOW!

Colors were spectacular and the canyon itself...............

Of course I had to get some photos with the best view.

Some of the vegetation and the lighting attracted my lens.

As well as some of the more brave.......maybe crazy?

And the "Painted Wall".

God (aka. Mother Nature) is an amazing artist.
And the lighting changed from viewpoint to viewpoint.

After a great day in the outdoors,
we got back to our LSF and opened a bottle of wine
made tacos and did a few household chores.
Bathed the "boyz" and ourselves, relaxed and off to sleepyland.

Today we get ready to travel, trailer duties, laundry and assorted organizing.
Heading for Mesa Verde tomorrow and hopefully some warmer weather will arrive.

So "hi" from the great Colorado Plateau.

Montrose, CO

Hi all
Friday, last sunrise for us at Mosca Campground.

Rocky Mountains in the fall, WOW!
The drive from the campground to Montrose
all mountain roads, some tight turns and a 10,000+ foot pass.

The aspens were in full color, as were the grasses and brush.

The drive went well and faster than I expected.
Some wonderful views along the

Curecanti National Recreation Area

Very little traffic, good roads and nice weather.
Some snow was visible in the trees,
but mostly looking at the Ring device at home.

Don't miss this at all. Although it is warmer at night at home.
Set up in a KOA RV Park and headed out for groceries.
Home, watched a movie and off to bed.

Today we are going up to Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park.
One more park off my Bucket List.
Sunny, cool and fairly clear atmosphere.
Should be another great day,

On our way!

Hi all
Bright sunny cold morning here.

No snow or rain, but 16° and calm.
Will be chilly hooking up this morning.

Most of the day will be driving mountain roads.
May have to take breaks to keep alert and we have the time to do that.
Heading for Montrose, CO and a RV Park.
Can get trailer duties done, laundry and restock.

San Luis Valley

Hi all
Still enjoying the wonderful weather.
Going to change today.
Started out about 40 today and only up into the 50's for a high.
Into the teens tonight, bbrrr!
Guess it is time to move on through the cold weather.
Yeah, don't tell me, I know it is warmer at home.

Yesterday we spent time at Great Sand Dunes National Park.
Crowds were small and that always makes for a great experience.
Advantage to visiting this time of year.
Sand Dunes are big. These are the tallest dunes in North America.
https://www.nps.gov/grsa/index.htm

Took the "high clearance 4X4" primitive road as far as the
parking lot at the "Point of no Return"
From there the conditions required a vehicle that you could lower the air in the tires.
Due to long areas of soft deep sand.
Would have been great to go up to the pass.
The Aspen are in full color.

Just need wide soft tires, not only for the sand, but to soften the ride over the rocks.

Had ours in 4X4 low so we could go walking slow.

From there we had a picnic under the Aspens and sunshine.

Then on down to the dunes.
Big soft sand beach and a quarter mile walk to the dunes.

Neither Millie or I had any interest in testing our circulatory system
enough to climb any dune or walk that far in the soft sand at 8000+ feet.
Took photos and let the dogs bark and kick up dust.

Home to our LSF, a bottle of wine, Mac n Cheese with ham and half a Turkey sandwich.
OK, so "tomorrow" we will work on healthy.
Sunset and twilight in the desert.

Actually watched a little TV along with image editing.
Pancho learning how to use the recliner and watch TV

Today we may be packing to travel.
At least we have to decide if we travel Fri or Sat.
Since it is going to be windy, gust up to 40 and only mid 50's, no plan other than pack.
Hey, it is still sunny!

Wednesday at Mosca Campground

Hi all
Finally getting back into this retirement thing.
Stayed put Tuesday, OK, we did walk the dogs several times.

That was it, enjoyed the weather, the view and a visit with fellow Arctic Fox owners.
Millie got in lots of quilting time and I practiced some with a camera or two.
Great Sand Dunes National Park at the foot of the mountains.

Desert vegetation, duh!

Fun to see some clouds. At times some got together and looked like rain.
Also looked like what did rain, did not reach the ground.
As they move closer to the mountains they dissipated.

So great to meet people that have similar interest and different experiences RVing.
Little tricks and tips that just come in the conversation about our RVs.
Places we've been and places they have been.
Gleaning some different places for addition to the bucket list.

Evenings and sunsets in the high desert seems to be the best time for the camera.

Mornings do not seem to have that "golden hour".
Could be the 13,000 foot mountain the sun rises behind.
Also it is has been 60's to 70's in the evening.
The 20's in the morning just are not as comfortable for these old bones.
Takes a bit to loosen and warm up.

Not much to report.
We love traveling and miss all our girls.
Staying here a few more days, still not sure when.
Likely Friday or Saturday we will head to Gunnison, CO
Hope to find an RV Park so we can empty, fill and restock.

Hi all

Monday was a great day.
Slept in, had a late breakfast, organized some storage and ready by noon.
Fridge seemed to be acting up so we headed to Alamosa.
Plan was to get a cheap foam cooler, ice, eggs and cream cheese.
Millie also wanted to get an inexpensive iron and thought "thrift store".
Truck re-gen had started on the way so we kept going and ended up in Monte Vista, CO.
Found a thrift store there and an iron!
Safeway for the food items and water fill station.
Fueled up the truck and headed to Alamosa Walmart.
Got ice and cooler there.
Late lunch and a beer at San Luis Valley Brewing.

Great beer, service and BLT.  Burger just so-so.
From lunch we drove up to Great Sand Dunes National Park.
Toured the campground and very happy with where we are at.
Very few sites there that we could fit into and they were taken.
Stopped at a view point or two.

Then headed back to our LSF for the sunset.

TV, sewing and image editing kept us busy till bedtime.
Still trying to decide how long to stay.
Max is 14 days, but we would have to take the LSF to the park for trailer duties.
30-40 mile round trip and it is not on the way to where we are going,
Decisions, decisions!
