Seven Feathers

Hello one and all
Spent Thursday morning paying bills and other financial stuff.
Relief to know that is done and we still have enough to get home.
Afternoon Millie cleaned her sewing machine.
Then we spent an hour or so figuring out why it didn't work properly.
Success and she shortened my PJ pants.
While she sewed, I took a nap.
Wow the day went fast.

Late lunch and after a bit we went to the Casino.
Forgot or Players Cards so no gambling.
Got ice cream.
This is a single scoop cone.
Could hardly eat it all, but I forced myself!

Trying to post a video and hope it works.
If not, just trust me!
This is the Beatles Tribute Band at the Casino.
Our second time and they were just as good as the night before.

Tomorrow we attempt to get our flu shots.
OW!
Then visit a few wineries to quell the pain.

Y'all have a great day.

Canyonville Day 3

Nice day, was supposed to have rain and the weather guesser was wrong. YEA!
Stuck around the trailer and got chores done, yes even here.
Went into Canyonville and looked in the antique shops.
Lots of stuff and guess what!
Millie found some fabric!
I found an old wooden "Coffee" box for the lake.
Went for some groceries at a neat little natural foods and bakery.
Bought some spectacular cinnamon raisin bread and a few other creature comfort foods.
After, Millie returned to sew and I went looking for the pistol range.
We both succeeded and had an enjoyable late afternoon.

I really did find where the Riddler was from.

Was just outside of Riddle the pistol range was located.

Main street Riddle, OR.

Lumber is still a big industry here. This mill makes plywood and engineered lumber. Most of the logs looked like they were off of burns. The sprinklers keep the damp wood cool so as not to spontaneously combust.

A barn along the road.

Just the beginning of the fall colors here, The road from Riddle to Canyonville.

After our relaxing afternoon we headed over to the Casino. BBQ night at the Buffet.
While we waited for a table we did  little gambling. Still breaking about $30+ ahead.
After dinner we went to one of the bars for a Beatles Tribute band.
Nearly 2 hour show and we enjoyed the memories and fun.
Band did a great job.

All in all we had a great day.
Still enjoying the good life and plan to keep it up a long time.
Make your day great and enjoy all you can.
Hugs

Canyonville,OR

No photos today, I know, I know. What's up with that?
Just hung around the trailer and walked the dogs today.
About mid afternoon we moved into the RV Park.
Fantastic park, lots of room, nice grass and even sidewalks.
Going to stay 7 nights since we pay for 6 and get the 7th free.
Get both the Players Club and Good Sam discounts.
Makes it reasonably affordable.

Simple supper after a nice nap.
Then off to the Casino.
Millie gave them back all that she won yesterday
And I gave them back just $2 of my winnings from yesterday.
Walked around and then had ice cream.

Home to the trailer and soon to bed.
Hoping for a little more sun tomorrow.

Make your day great!

Canyonville, OR

Made the trip today. No wind, partly cloudy and snow above 5000 feet.
I was right about Sunday, did little more than move the trailer and some shopping.
Millie got work gloves so she can help more with hookup.
And she got hiking boots so now I will have to hike!

The pass at Crater Lake. about 5900 feet,
Park was closed from this side and we did not want to go the long way around,
Besides they had more snow than this.

A nice rest area/ overlook at Diamond Lake.
33° and in between snow showers.

On the way down the pass.
Was really nice to see the temps go up on the West side.
Back to fall!

Further down the West side.
Not to far out of Roseburg, OR
Colors were spectacular.

We made it to Canyonville about 3pm.
We are in the "Dry" camping area of the Seven Feathers Casino and Resort.
"Dry" means no hookups.
Not a problem, we figured this is how we would do 1-2 nights.
Well lit and security makes regular patrols.
Went to the Casino tonight and with food and gambling spent $25.
Came home with $34+.
So they paid us 9 bucks to stay, eat and gamble.
Not a bad deal. Maybe do that every night.
YEAH, RIGHT!

Planning to spend maybe a week here.
Still have to see what else there is to do besides gamble.

So much to see and do.
Make your day worthwhile.

High Desert

Wow, what a day!
Got up and hurried so we would make the 10 o'clock talk at the Bend High Desert Museum.
If you ever get 3-5 hours in Bend, OR it is worth the stop,

Went on the nature walk to learn about vegetation in the high desert.

I know, doesn't look much like a desert.
There are streams and pond here too!

Much of the grounds were dedicated to life the settlers may have had.
Millie thought this was neat, but no way to live now.
I didn't try very hard to talk her into selling everything and head for Oregon in a covered wagon.
After seeing this our big white box looks pretty comfortable.
This is the great grandpa of out big white box.

Don't think I would have cottoned much to these always under foot.

This was a sculpture made entirely of barbed wire.

Get the point!

Met this guy in the Raptor area.
The show was great and presenter very knowledgeable.

And of course someone to cuddle up with on a cold winters night.

After the museum we went through the hassle of transferring a couple of prescriptions.
Patience is a virtue and I have proved my "virtuesnes".

Then we met with Mary and Roger Sanders for supper.
Mary is my 2nd cousin on my Mom's side.
Had a great visit and found it to be way too short.
Thanks Mary and Roger.
Loved the history of Bend from Roger.
Wow, I wish I knew that much about Fargo and I have lived there my whole life.
We must do it again!

Sunday morning we have to move as our spot has been reserved.
So had to pack things away.
Plan to stay in the same park so won't move far.
The wind is supposed to subside by Monday morning so we will be on our way south and west.
Don't plan to do much Sunday so may not be much of a post and with packing and leaving?
We will see.

Hugs and patience work miracles and be careful what you ask for ----you may get it!

Looking around Bend

A glorious morning
Relaxed with coffee and light breakfast.
Drove into Bend and found my Second Cousin Mary at work.
Had a short chat and decided to go out to eat tomorrow night.
Had a good time looking around their store and seeing all the neat fireplaces.
After we found McMenamins here in Bend and enjoyed Fish n Chips and a great clam chowder.

After we did some shopping at a converted lumber mill.
Was hard to know it was ever an industrial site.
Developer did a great job updating and adding new.
Going to eat there tomorrow night.
Then Millie decided to take a nap as her birthday present, or she was tired!
I drove out to Paulina Lakes and up Paulina peak.
Did not get all the way to the top as at about 7000 feet the clouds had moved in and couldn't see.
Turned around and headed home.

On the way back down found the "Big Obsidian Flow"
Yes that is what it is called.
This piece was about the size of two concrete block and probably weight over 100 lbs.
Besides being against the law and over 6000 feet of elevation, I had to get me back to the truck without the sample.
OK at those elevations if doing little manual labor.
Many of you know about "Flat lander syndrome".

That's about it for Friday.
More tomorrow.

Painted Canyon

Good morning all!
Yesterday was mostly a travel day.
Left Pendleton about 10:30 and drove one curvy road after another.
Lost count of how many passes we went over.
And oh, the beauty of Central Oregon!

Starts out like above, south of Pendleton.
And quickly goes into hills and trees.
Rocks and canyons.

Made a side trip into the John Day Fossil Beds to see Painted Canyon.

This is a lot of how we turn a 4 hour trip into 7 hours.
All most always worth the diversion.

Travel days are not very exciting and the diversions help us keep going.
As you can see Millie and the "fur kids" are doing fine and enjoy the little hikes.

Made it to Bend about sunset yesterday. Got set up, ate and walked for a while then off to bed.
Today we have to decide if we are going to stay here and possibly lose the opportunity to cross the Cascades to the west or go today. Would like to rest and see some of the Bend area.
Guess we will let you know tomorrow what we decide.

Hugs and make good choices
